No - you won‘t find the following information in every edition of the Guinness Book of Records abroad. But you do find that information in the US-edition of the Guinness Book of Records.
St. Petersburg is number one! Number one in days with sunshine in a row! 766 days in a row (what ever that means, who ever figured that out, how ever they measured that - but it was the same base for all cities). And -of course- it’s some years away.
There’s some truth in the names of landscapes all of the world: the Cote d’Azur, the Netherlands, the Rocky Mountains - Can you imagine, why this place is called Pinellas Suncoast?! 350 days of sunshine a year - on average.
By the way - yes, actually it is a little bit warmer in Cape Coral than in St. Pete. On average! And because we heard that point somewhat in the past, we went to Border‘s and looked into an almanac. About four degrees Fahrenheit. That’s it! And here we go: four degrees Fahrenheit warmer in Cape Coral/Ft. Myers, another three in Naples. We think - that’s not that much. But there‘s more sun in St. Petersburg - and more fun!
Another detail to mention in the Guinness Book of Records should be Jules Verne (might have been the very first sci-fi author of all, 1828 - 1905, living in Europe). 100 years before NASA started their first Apollo project, he thought that the best place for a space trip might be in “the New World”, somewhere close to the equator. He called this place Moon-City and believe it or not, the name of the town today is St. Petersburg. He failed by a little more than 130 miles, 100 years before the first flight into space!
And - St. Petersburg is calling itself sailing capital of the world. Of course you can rent each size of boat, real big ones and smaller ones. You can hire a skipper or handle it yourself. You can go deep sea fishing or just having fun. And you can go out on the ocean once a week or every single day. You will find a boat rental some 8 minutes away from your home, and better around every next corner.
Our personal record for St. Petersburg/Tampa area: it’s the place with the most malls to go shopping (eight of them within 40 minutes maximum drive), a huge number of restaurants (hundreds or even thousands?), a fantastic cultural offer (concerts of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra but also concerts of the Backstreet Boys, Phil Collins, Gloria Estefan and many others) and many museums. One exception: of course there is more to shop, there are more restaurants and there is more entertainment in Miami - but honestly: who really prefers to visit Miami?!
